The University of Belgrade is a state-owned university established two centuries ago. Its activities – higher education and scientific research – are in public interest and are strictly defined by law. The main source of finance is the budget of the Republic of Serbia, although the University and its faculties may also gain additional income by working within their core activities.The University of Belgrade is consisted of 31 faculties divided into 4 study areas: Faculties of Social Sciences and Humanities, Faculties of Medical Sciences, Faculties of Sciences and Mathematics, Faculties of Technology and Engineering Sciences and 11 research institutes. University of Belgrade enrolls approximately 80,000 new students each year.

The Faculty of Architecture of the University of Belgrade is the leading higher education institution for architecture and urban studies in the Balkan Region. As an institution with a long tradition (the first architecture study programme was introduced in 1846), the Faculty takes stock of historical achievements awhile striving to train professionals whose ideas and innovations forge new paths of advancement in architecture, arts and design, humanities and urban sciences.
